Macaque appreciates the affection. It can only do so much right now, but it does help a little.

"I'll probably go back to her when I hear her nearing wakefulness. She was pretty set on my not leaving her during the brief time when she woke between the worst dream ever and her normal sleep."

"The end of the dream is the one part that's too disorienting to remember properly. One moment we were there dealing with that damned place and the next I was awake here and fearing the worst. All I could think of was getting to her, and so my memory of the last bit of the dream is foggy." He had other priorities.

"Of course it was," That makes sense. Lucifer knows that would be his own focus in such a thing. He uses his magic to teleport them into his room, on his bed, still with Macaque on his lap.

"You've suffered so. You both have. I am so sorry, love."

Macaque tries not to cry all over again at the familiar surroundings. Lush, comfortable, and with his mate. (He does succeed at keeping his tears in check, but only just. Being powerless and hurting his child was not a good experience for him.)

"It's--" Well, not okay, but. "It is what it is. At least when they speak of the death game worlds where they were tortured I'll be more able to sympathize. Choco and Donnie and Wash."

More gentle kisses to the back of Macaque's head as the other Lucifer kisses his cheeks, kissing away the tears.

"Do you want anything to drink? Or even eat, love?" Lucifer figures he should ask about those needs. Sleep likely won't come for some time.

"Fruit, please. Or anything fresh." Food there was... not fresh and mostly not fruit.

Lucifer sends his double to go fetch some fresh fruit from the kitchen.

"Okay. Fruit juice and fresh fruit coming up. Is there anything else you want to tell me? Anything at all. Or talk about. ...I know we won't fix or mend anything, really. I am here to listen and help in any way I can, small or not. Like you were for me, when my heart was freezing. Or I was too depressed to get out of bed. Or when Charlie...you get the idea."

"I'll probably want to talk more later. Right now I just want to rest and eat something that's not random detritus. Or what tastes like it. Qhyone was not terribly hospitable.

"--And I'll probably need understanding about not surprising me for the next few months at least. I may be jumpy."

"Very well. No surprises. ...Sorry about the teleporting without warning you. That was bad of me."

"And they made us wage war on the environment if we wanted clothes or sheets or anything. It was the absolute worst." How can a monkey live on one set of linen clothes?

"It's all right. I'd rather be here than the middle of the woods. Warning me should be sufficient. I'd be careful about surprising Choco for similar reasons. She had to live through, or "live through" that for more than the 6th time, and she was acting a little different. I suspect it's another alter who compartmentalizes quite well."

"A warning form now on always. Until you say you are ready for surprises again. Would you like me to let Wukong and MK know so you don't have to answer any follow up questions from them?"

Lucifer feels the etchings and keeps working at them.

"How many will that make now? Five?"

"Yeah." Little bitch indeed. Except that when in their world, you're powerless to do a damn thing about it.

"I'll contact them when I'm ready, if you don't mind. And Wash." And Candid. "Sooner than later, don't worry, I just want to be able to breathe before I drop this particular bomb. I was most comfortable being a mess around you so you had to deal with me first. Sorry."

"Of course, love," Lucifer gently lays down the chain to hug Macaque fully from behind.

"I am honored you felt most comfortable with me. I mean that. We can be a complete mess around each other. Every time. I love you, forever and always. Never apologize for that."

"A dubious honor, really, considering what you're contending with." He's jumpy, touchy, and overall a disaster with a memory that has holes in it.

He leans against Lucifer. Fighting and beating his urge to cry again. "I love you too. Several weeks felt like an eternity without you." And his other mates. At least his kids were there and ""there"" or else he'd have gone completely nuts.

"I wear it with a great honor," Lucifer pets Macaque and holds him. The double returns with fresh cut mango, strawberries, apples, and grapefruit. Along with a few bottles of apple juice, orange juice, and lychee soda.

"Here we go."

Macaque takes a mango and a strawberry and eats them despite how eating makes his stomach want to argue the point. He did miss fresh fruit and is hungry, it's just that his memory full of torture and death is bothering him more than it usually might.

"Thanks." He also sips the apple juice. "You made just the right amount of fuss." He hopes everyone else takes it as well.

"You're welcome. And I'm glad. ...You went through something terrible but I can't change it. But I can support you through it. And you do not need to calm me down right now. Not when you need me. Our little book club has definitely taught me quite a lot."

"If I did need to calm you down, I would." He's good at putting himself aside for someone he loves. "I'm not quite fragile enough not to."

He blinks at the mention of the book club, then smiles softly. "It helped me too. I might have to read them again though, to make sure I haven't forgotten anything. This place felt so far away while I was in that dream."

"I know you would. But you don't need that right now," Lucifer gently boops Macaque's nose.

"And we will re-read them together, with both our notes. Refresher readings, just in case."

"I'm as good to you as you deserve. And you are to me," Lucifer picks up the soul chain again and resumes his work.

"Eat your fruit and I'll focus on this for a bit."

Macaque smiles and resumes eating, slowly.

The soul damage shouldn't be too difficult to fix, thankfully. As long as Macaque doesn't use his shadow magic.

And if he does, his objectives should counter it. Ear petting is one, grooming, emotional intimacy... the snake really had his number.

"I hate this snake all the more. Do you remember your objectives?" Because this is cruel. To tie these acts to this soul bullshit. Lucifer is very much focusing on trying to undo these. It is his soul right now, after all. On loan but still. He won't let this snake win.

"Generally objectives heal the soul. And I'm not sure how much I can avoid any of them if I'm to tell my other mates about this. The intimacy one was triggered by the touching, but it's calmed down now."
