"Eat your fruit and I'll focus on this for a bit."

Macaque smiles and resumes eating, slowly.

The soul damage shouldn't be too difficult to fix, thankfully. As long as Macaque doesn't use his shadow magic.

And if he does, his objectives should counter it. Ear petting is one, grooming, emotional intimacy... the snake really had his number.

"I hate this snake all the more. Do you remember your objectives?" Because this is cruel. To tie these acts to this soul bullshit. Lucifer is very much focusing on trying to undo these. It is his soul right now, after all. On loan but still. He won't let this snake win.

"Grooming, ear petting, emotional intimacy. Things I wouldn't mind doing with my mates but loathe to do with strangers." So of course that's what he was assigned.

"Indeed. I worry doing them may reinforce them in your soul. Until I remove them, should they be avoided? Have we been triggering the emotional intimacy one during this conversation?"

"Generally objectives heal the soul. And I'm not sure how much I can avoid any of them if I'm to tell my other mates about this. The intimacy one was triggered by the touching, but it's calmed down now."

"Oh. So they won't...make it harder to...get rid of?" Lucifer asks softly. He just wants to make sure. This magic still feels so alien to him.

"If it heals, then, I suppose we can use it somewhat while I work to remove the taboos first. Unless they are tied together, then we'll need to remove both at the same time. I was just worried that triggering them would carve them even deeper. Like how Choco's are so deep into her soul."

"I can't promise that. I haven't had experience removing them. But they're designed to reverse soul damage, not make it." He sighs. "It's the taboos I want gone, the objectives can stay forever for all I care. But if both go, all the better." The less pieces of That Snake on him the better.

"Choco has had hers for far longer and mine were probably the result of different magic, since we weren't really there. Also her soul is generally a mess, mine is fairly pristine. Except for the death and messy resurrection. I've seen a picture representation of hers, trust me on that."

Lucifer smiles. That does make him feel better, honestly. If it is to heal and perhaps not really the snake's magic but more of a almost psychosomatic response to the dream. But via the soul. Soulsomatic? Or some shadow of power but not truly the snake's. Either way, that does make Lucifer more hopeful. He nods and works on the taboos first then. Best to see if he can remove them alone. That would reveal if they are somehow bound together, taboos and objectives.

"I can only imagine and I'm sure it falls short. I'll get them gone, love. Shouldn't be too difficult. I just want to make sure they don't lash out and damage you more on the way out first."

"I'm sure it falls short. If she'd ever allow you to look you would be horrified. But yes, thank you. I'd be lost if I couldn't use my shadows."

"Of course. If I couldn't use my angelic powers or my wings, I'd feel awful. Like a part of me is missing. I'm sure it is similar for you, yes? You use your shadows by second nature, if not first nature."

"Awww," Lucifer makes such a soft noise and smiles. "That sounds so soft and happy. You never told me that before."

"Of course love. I won't stop until I've gotten rid of these taboos."

Macaque goes quiet for a long moment.

"There's more to that dream. I'm not ready to talk about everything yet." He leans on Lucifer and puts both hands on his body, as if to assure himself that he's really there.

"Of course, love," Lucifer says softly and keeps working on the taboo and keeps his wings folded around them.

"I am here when you are ready. For now, what else can I do for you, if anything."

"Just don't leave me alone. And don't take it personally if there's a moment when I can't stand being touched. During that time I'll probably need you to talk or something." He needs to be able to hear even if he can't be touched.

"I know." That's why he came to Lucifer first, he knew that he'd be good in this situation.

"We saw Choco's heart in there. Her objectives and taboos were carved right into the very heart of her. A tree that represented her will to live."

"I didn't have my memories at the time, so I suggested we make a new tree. ...Did I hurt her?"

Lucifer is glad Macaque came to him. He listens and it takes him a moment to catch what he's being asked. What is being admitted. His eyes widen as it connects.

"I...um. W-wait. Are you saying you build a supporting tree for the one in there or...did you remake her tree? Her heart? ...Her soul?"

"I asked if she wanted a new tree. She said that she did. So I helped her make one. We didn't destroy the old one or anything like that. But then I asked if she wanted to make sure that only things she allows into her soul can get access, so we did that too. It's very imprecise magic based around her consent, so I don't exactly know what that did."

He plops his face into his hands.

That is a lot to take in. A whole lot. A new tree, not one to replace but perhaps a molding over it? And some very imprecise magic to create a lock and door for Korone to allow some things into the inner sanctum of her soul. If it worked. If it wasn't broken into. Oh. This sends all sorts of alarm bells off in his head.

"After you finishes the...construction. How did Choco seem to you?"
